Jenkins has a very handy feature of restarting itself upon installing updates and plug-ins. It also displays a "please wait" kind of page while restarting.

It would be helpful to have a similar capability in Bamboo. Getting on the physical server to restart the Bamboo service and then keep refreshing a "white page" as it starts back up (which in itself is very slow, btw) is quite odd.

I have the same problem, as Aries commented. I need to configure the broker's client URL and a message the bamboo's own message asks to be restarted. "Requires Bamboo restart after changing."

            Hi,

I'm needing to do the same functionality.  I have sysadmin permission in Bamboo but no access to physical server or VM where bamboo is running on.

I'm needing to change System -> General Configuration -> Broker Client URL  which requires Bamboo restart.

            Thanks,

            Aires

We want this feature because we're running Bamboo in an OnDemand environment, where we don't have any capacity to restart the server ourselves. Today we filed a critical support ticket and waited 90 minutes for a support engineer to notice the problem and reboot the machine. We would have happily just clicked the "restart" button ourselves, if we could have.

Thanks for the context Milan. It might be worth getting in touch with the TFS plugin vendor and asking them if they could remove the restart restriction. Almost all Bamboo plugins will update without a restart.

            Thanks

            Hi James,

The one in particular is the TFS plugin (which is pretty awesome). For some reason it asks to restart the Bamboo service. I imagine other plug-ins may do the same.

We're still evaluating Bamboo and several other Atlassian products, so this is not a huge issue per se. I don't know how often plug-ins get updated. It just may become inconvenient once we go "live" and have to bug Infrastructure to do service restarts for us.

            Many thanks,
            Milan

Thanks for the suggestion. What is the main reason you want this feature? Most plugin updates in Bamboo do not require a restart. If its for plugin updates, what plugins are you using ask you to restart Bamboo?

            Thanks
