Current behaviour
Goals and Projects currently use a fixed set of statuses (for example: On track, At risk, Off track, Pending, Paused, Cancelled, Done) with predefined colours. These cannot be renamed, reordered, added to, or recoloured.
Problem
Many organisations have existing reporting frameworks with their own status language and colour conventions. Because statuses and colours are fixed, teams either need to adapt their internal reporting language to match the defaults, or maintain a mapping between the two. This creates friction when rolling Goals and Projects out across an organisation, particularly where status definitions are set centrally by a PMO or leadership team.
Suggested solution
Allow organisation admins to customise Goal and Project statuses, including the ability to:
- Rename existing statuses to match internal reporting language
- Add or remove statuses
- Change the colour associated with each status
Customisation would ideally be managed at the organisation level so that status meanings remain consistent across all teams, and reflected everywhere statuses appear (status updates, directory views, embeds, and notifications).
Workaround
Teams can add context in the body of a status update to clarify what a status means in their organisation's terms, but the status label and colour itself cannot be changed.
