Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.
The add-in currently only supports the ability to refresh on a manual basis. Users want their imported Jira issues updated on a periodic basis, rather than only on demand.
[API-206] Schedule refresh of Jira issues on Jira Cloud for Excel Integration
Having the ability to schedule refresh on Jira work items on Jira Cloud in Excel would be amazing!! Such a benefit for many.
cchang@atlassian.com any chance we'll see action on this suggestion in the next few months or at least in 2025?
I don't understand why scheduled refreshes are not available? Especially when this data is feeding dashboards. Jira limits the type of dashboards you can make because all the out of box metrics they give you are developer focused.
This already exists in for the google sheets API. Can't we get it for excel?
Any update on this one? It's a feature that would be incredibly useful to have.
Just checking if there are updates on this. Really appreciate if this feature can be added
Please, allow to choose autoupdate for each sheet in workbook separately. It would make sense if user adds sheet with blank JQL Query. For example if user uses there the SUMIFS formula to calculate data from other Jira connected sheets.
This would be so amazing. Please can you prioritize this, Atlassin Alot of our users are still used to Excel and pushing info to it and having up to date info in there. Would love if there is a setting to have the Jira data pull into a spreadsheet be updated, perhaps with a configureable cadance/frequency ...
I got here from https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Jira-Cloud-for-Google-Sheets-Automatically-Refresh-Your-Data/ba-p/1200264 and so jeolous of not being on Google Sheets anymore
Thank you
I don't see any updates here. This feature would be a life saver. Please update.
I don't see any updates here. This feature would be a life saver. Please update. Also great to see that the Assignee isn't even active anymore.
Hi when i refresh the data If I add a column to the spreadsheet with notes when it refreshes it jumbles up the rows so the note for each ticket is all randomised... how do i fix this?
Automatic (scheduled) Jira Cloud data transfer to Excel would be a great asset. The Jira experience would be much, much better.
I just use the Jira plugins build in refresh setting. Updates> Re-run my query each time I open workbook.
hence just opening the file using the script triggers the update.
This is just a quick and dirty way to get the ball rolling, I might have to shift to the python/webapi method to get the data I need.
@Anwer Amin,
I understand how you can open the excel file, but how do you trigger the update?
I have a similar configuration. File on OneDrive / SharePoint. I have multiple sheets that the tool updates. This data is imported into PowerBI for visualization / reporting.
Thank you.
The only why I have been able to get a workable solution is hosting the excel doc in Sharepoint/One-drive, share it with my team (we also use the file update a powerbi dashboard)
To update the file, I have a small C# program/ batch script that open the excel doc, waits 5 mins for the data to refresh and closes it again (the file autosaves since its hosted in SharePoint). It's cumbersome with so may moving parts, but it works to keep data update ever hours or so.
Upvote here. Just having to move from Google to Excel and very disappointed that the refresh cannot be scheduled. What is more disappointing is that I can't figure out how to reliably get the data source to update. I can't refresh the data unless I open it in the desktop version of Excel and force it t update there and then save that to have it reflected in Excel Online. This is terrible because this document is shared and used by my team and therefore I have to keep manually updating it all of the time so that everyone else can see the reflected changes. Please fix this!
Our company just moved from Google to Microsoft and unfortunately, I have to use Excel now for all the custom Jira reports I built.
Incredibly surprising though is how behind Excel is when it comes to the Jira plugin. Not having the option to refresh on a schedule or simply refresh it outside of the plugin context is ridiculous.
The option to refresh upon the workbook being opened is BUGGY so every once in a while it automatically defaults back to the other option.
The lack of this feature is really frustrating.
Purchase of Jira Cloud dependent on functionality of certain plugins, this being one of them. Manual export ok, automated is ideal.
We'd very much like this feature, so we don't have to continue using Google Sheets for Auto refresh of Jira data for our internal business reports.

Hi Liz,
Catherine is an inactive user, so unfortunately, we can't expect a response from her.
Actually, there was no activity by Atlassian on this request for 2 years.
Atlassian is generally not in the business of allowing users to create quality exports from Jira data.
If you haven't done so, and are open to specialized apps, try Better Excel Exporter for Jira Cloud and its free companion, Better Excel Automation both by our team at Midori.
These have been the go-to tools for Jira to Excel reporting for a long time, even for small teams on free tiers!
