Automatically enable did you mean if compatible language is configured

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Cloud. Using Confluence Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

Boots raised in a blog post the fact that a few customers are confused by 'didyoumean' not being automatically enabled.

A couple of folks asked me recently why their "did you mean" (suggested search feature in Confluence) is not making suggestions. While demoing this past week, I noticed the same issue (I thought my spelling was just too terrible for any suggestions).

This is because the feature only works for installs configured for English. However it should be possible to automatically detect a compatible language configuration and automatically enable the feature.

Docs for manually configuring the feature are here.

We've removed "Did you mean" in Confluence 5.2. This issue is no longer relevant.

Just to make my comment (copy-pasted by Boots above) more clear:

            i) It would be great to be able to "disable" the dictionary lookup or whatever it does when I search for "telemóvel" because it suggests "telexóveal", whatever that means (not portuguese ) and that word doesn't even exist in any page.
ii) It would be great that I could search for "telemovel" (common mistake when searching) and it suggested "telemóvel" if the word existed (in this case, it exists, but it doesn't suggest anything).
iii) last but not least, accent and case insensitive would be perfect

These would be interesting even if you never have support for the portuguese language, because we'll probably not use it anyway (we have non-portuguese speaking employees). But we do have pages in portuguese, so that would make all the difference.

As noted by our customer (Carlo), 'did you mean' even works with non English words as long as there are no special characters in them.

            Examples:

"exclusivo" (correct word in Portuguese) in some page and I search for "esclusivo" it suggests the correct word.
"telemóvel" however, does not return a result.

Would be nice to just have it enabled by default.
