Ability to provision users to Bitbucket Cloud repositories with SCIM

    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

Currently it is only possible to provision users from an external identity provider to Bitbucket, like Jira and Confluence Cloud sites. This prevents customers from using an external identity provider to manager access to Bitbucket Cloud repositories. This feature would provide the capability to use groups defined in an external IdP to manage permissions for Bitbucket Cloud.

Latest Update from Atlassian as of 20 Feb 2024:

Bitbucket Cloud recently shipped unified user management for new workspaces on Feb 5th. You can read the announcement blog here. We are still working on this feature for existing workspaces and I will have an update on the release date in the next few months. You can follow the item on our public roadmap: https://www.atlassian.com/wac/roadmap/cloud/Unified-user-management-for-existing-customers?selectedProduct=bitbucket&p=38d41238-67.

            Hi 1c505570e116,

            Thank you for the information.

But... I think you can understand the frustration of all existing Bitbucket users. Q4 2024 is pretty far. And we have all been waiting for already a very long time. I really hope you will change your mind, otherwise I'm pretty sure many of us will move to another solution.

            Regards,

This has been a blocker to our transitioning to Bitbucket cloud up to now. We've now started using the unified user management under a newly created workspace and stumbled into an unusual issue where Bitbucket cloud requires 2FA to be configured in Bitbucket for users who need to enabled Pipelines. In this case, it Bitbucket does not appear to make a distinction between native Bitbucket users and users who come from an external IdP. Support has opened a separate feature request for this, but if you are like us, this is core functionality to centralizing authentication. You may want to go vote for this issue as well:

Hi everyone, Unified User Management is coming soon to Bitbucket Cloud. Please refer to the blog for more details.

It's quite frustrating that for businesses that are already paying and have been for a long time, this is delayed until Q4 2024. It's not coming soon to us at all. For essentially being loyal customers, we've ended up being cut short from a key feature. I'm guess that 99% of the people who raised, voted and commented here are not new customers who were waiting for this feature before switching to BB.

From Q2 2023 to Q4 2023 and now in the blog : Q1 2024 for new customers and start of rollout in Q4 2024 for existing customers, so at best Q1 2025 for us.

Such a delay on this basic feature, bitbucket not handled by the new billing system and still nothing about pre-receive hooks (BCOULD-10471) means that it start to review our usage of Bitbucket and the other git cloud providers.

Highly recommend moving to GitHub. The SCIM provisioning is fantastic, and the ability to sync an Okta group with a GitHub team was life changing for us. We had the same discussions surrounding whether we should wait for Atlassian to actually do this or not a couple years ago and we absolutely made the right call to drop Bitbucket in favor of GitHub.

            Seriously. ..

There's a couple of features that I'd like to see move which have been stuck for years, are inconsistent or simply suck at least as much as this request.

But please stop complaining if an item on a roadmap of a multi billion dollar company with 25k developers is moved by a quarter.

Is it really a reason to question the world...

            This is not serious...

You move the roadmap even when companies buy your products waiting for this roadmap...

Hope Bitbucket will be available soon connected with Access because this is ridiculous... a platform like Atlassian with one of their most selled products not connected with the others
