Cumulative Flow Diagram (CFD) is not always displaying the correct state

    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

The Cumulative Flow Diagram introduced in Greenhopper 5.2 does not represent the actual state of the Version it is displaying. And it is displaying the Order wrong.

As visible in the attached image the In" Progress" shows somewhere around 5 Issues but the in progress issues are actually 0 so the diagram should reflect this. Also the order of the Diagram segments should always reflect the Task board order. So the Diagram should be Orange, Turquoise, Purple not Orange Purple, Turquoise.

One thing I also noticed is that when I change the Task board order the Diagram does not update correctly. Sometime only three Slots are displayed in the Legend even though the Task board has 4 columns, and the order of the graphs is also wrong.

As nice as a CFD is in the current state it is not as useful as it could and maybe should be.

            Hello Jean,
this looks absolutely fantastic. This is exactly how I would have expected it to work. I really want to thank the Greenhopper Team and Atlassian for making such a great product and for having amazing support. The speed and quality you guys react to issues is outstanding. I look forwards to the next official Greenhopper release.

Thanks so much also for being open and lending us users an open ear and engaging into productive discussions.

            Thanks

            Andreas

            Hi Andreas,

Please find attached a GreenHopper 5.2.2 with the revised CFD. It also has a fix for GHS-2456.
The revised computation of the CFD will now stack the curves instead of overlaying them.

Could you have a quick look at it and give us your feedback? Again it will be truly appreciated.

Please note that this is not an official release. If it does answers all concerns we will push it in the next official release.
Also this affects only the "Project based" CFDs not the cross-project ones.

            Cheers,
            JC

            Hey Jean,
thanks for looking deeper into this. It's fantastic that it is possible to have an open dialog with the Greenhopper Team. The Product is constantly getting better at a fast rate keep those great updates coming. Would love to have a look at anything you come up with. Jira and Greenhopper are an important part in our development Process having the tools improve is helping us improve.

            Thanks

            Andreas

            Haaaaa...

That is, in IMO, a more constructive email from a user an not a competitor
These are the ones that do affect me and that we would love to hear so we can address them properly.

            Thanks Chris,
            JC

            Ha! Funny

But still worthwhile to listen in on these threads - e.g. this guy

...I myself have been trying to use JIRA+Greenhopper for Kanban and I can do 80% of what I want - the 20% that I can't do is seriously bugging me (e.g. horizontal swimlanes based on class of service w/ limited WIP for each lane, limited WIP for the entire board, etc.).

            Thanks,

            Matt

            Hi Chris!

            Thanks for passing this on.
From a competitor (John Goodsen) it does not really surprise me
Some are more aggressive then others...

As long as we, the GreenHopper team, stay open and responsive to our user feedback these type of emails does not really affect me.

            Cheers,
            JC

Thanks JC, we all want Jira/Greenhopper to be a great KanBan tool as well. Hopefully we can combat the perception generated by these email threads (pasted below)

Jira is a classic example of a tool that was good for one thing (defect tracking) trying to claim it's good for all things (kanban), which it is not. There are at least half a dozen tools out there that do Kanban right. Jira is not one of them. So rather than waste your time trying to make it work, forget you ever heard the word "greenhopper" and go look at a tool that does Kanban right. That's my $.02 - and it's not just opinion. I just came off a client project where they tried real hard to make Jira work - but in the end, it didn't.
