    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Whatever the original motivation for using wiki markup in JIRA, it has become clear that the software community (e.g. GitHub and even Atlassian's own Bitbucket) favors markdown syntax.

It is extremely annoying (not to mention productivity lowering) for my students and developers (and me!) to have to switch to wiki syntax when migrating from Bitbucket issue tracking to JIRA. (I say this even though I've used JIRA with wiki syntax for many many, many years; before even using markdown syntax.) Simply put, the JIRA wiki syntax time has passed.

Please provide us at least the option of choosing a markdown renderer in JIRA Cloud.

Why are no-brainer issues like adding markdown support and passing custom fields to webhook url not looked at? Using Jira as a developer keeps getting frustrating by the day.

Please add this. Annoyance with having to write differently than every other tools we use is a huge blocker to having my developers use Jira. At the very least if nothing else, PLEASE add support for inline code formatting ( using ` some code ` and please add differentiating backgrounds to in-line code. the Awful monospace font is an extremely poor substitute.

It is extremely frustrating that Jira is out of step with the rest of the software development ecosystem when it comes to best practices on this topic.

Additionally, I highly encourage anyone viewing this ticket to also vote for the Confluence ticket: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-57638

Seems quite reasonable. I was surprised when I discovered it's not already an option.

I lost 10 minutes today fighting to get the syntax correct for a ticket I was writing. I eventually just gave up. It'd be nice if it was something standard like Markdown.

This is my single biggest complaint with Jira. I have others, but this is by far the biggest missing feature in my opinion. The software tools have standardized on markdown so much so that even Bitbucket uses it. There is now a agreed upon standard in [Common Mark](http://commonmark.org/).
