Possibly I am missing a workaround, but this issue is blocking an attempt to limit the availability of custom fields to only their applicable project and issue types.

Thankfully, advanced searches are not blocked in this way. Which makes blocking (only) basic searches in this way seem odd.

Although I like the advanced search: contextually removing a few custom fields is not worth the hassle of switching over to advanced searches for most users.
