    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Currently, using JIRA's quick search automatically defaults to use a Smart Query search:

It'd be useful to be able to set on a global level, or individual user level, the default behaviour on whether or not to use Smart Query by default.

[JRASERVER-32117] Add the ability to Disable Smart Query by default

            Hi everyone,
Thanks for raising this issue and sharing your feedback.
We’ve added a new setting to the User Preferences section that allows you to disable smart query as a default quick search mode.

+1   I have never found this useful.

Please let us disable that! We have a large number of projects, statuses etc. Most of the time it hijacks my keywords as a project specific search. The preview does not match the results after hitting enter.

The 'disable smart search' notification should at least re-insert the hijacked keyword and search for it across statuses or projects.

Smart query only causes troubles... please make it optional, or just remove it (is it really helping someone? can't they just use search page for powerful tools?).

Smart Query has only ever burned time in re-configuring a perfectly fine baseline query into something I'm sure is supposed to be intelligent.

At the least, I'd expect when I click "run without Smart Query" that it would revert to my original formatting, but selecting "run without" appears to do nothing.

To the OP's point, we have a project abbreviated as IS–imaging the chaos when a search string has the word "is" in it.

Smart Query has caused the search function to be a pain. Please fix.

Smart Query has been useless and confusing for me. Can't you just kill this not so smart query alltogether?

I hope Atlassian PO  really make the query box smart as it should be:

            1. Check the text in the query box is a valid JQL statement, then execute the JQL
            2. Otherwise, do the "smart query"

As most of the users, doing the query twice just to get a normal query box is very annoying and wasted the server resources
