The "Linked Issues" field in the issue screen should function the same as linking an issue via More > Link.

Problem Definition

As per the official documentation Linking issues and the KB article How does the searching during Issue Linking works, when you link an issue via the Link dialog box there will be both the History Search and Current Search.

In the Link dialog, there is also an option to search for an issue that will allow you to search for any issues easily.

However, if you add the Linked Issues field to the issue's screen. When creating or editing the screen, only the History Search is displayed and not the Current Search and search for an issue option.

Suggested Solution

Allow the "Linked issues" field to have the Current Search option as well as the search for an issue option.

Why this is important

Users will be able to conveniently link issues upon issue creation/edit without memorizing the exact issue key of the linked issues.

Workaround

Select More > Link and use the Link issues dialog to link your issues.
