      NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.

      Problem Definition

      On larger instances the index process can be time consuming. A background index is also required when you upgrade the plugins post upgrade. The Data Center option is one route. Though it would be good to have an option to trigger the index after accessing the instance to upgrade plugins ect.

      Suggested Solution

      It would be good to have a supported version of disabling the index task during the upgrade. Perhaps adding modifiers similar to the database update to fixing indexing disabled post upgrade
