Currently, the Mail queue items dont survive an application restart.
The mail queue service recently got stuck with close to 1000 mails in it. (Not sure why - but something to do with our smtp server going down a week ago - the oldest mail queue items matched the smtp server crash date)
In order to rectify it, we had to restart the server - but in doing so we lost all the mails... grr!
