When a user logs in through the standard JIRA log-in page (clicking on the Log In button on the top-right-hand corner), its a HTTP session.
But when a user logs in via the log-in gadget, it becomes a REST session.
Both of these information can be seen via Administration >> System >> User Sessions.
We should document the differences between them to explain how sessions in JIRA work.
