Resolution: Won't Do
NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Cloud. Using JIRA Server? See the corresponding suggestion.
When you use the JIRA Send Mail option, in the past (JIRA 4.4.5), JIRA just took the sender from the From field, which is the user's email address. Now, it's using the configured outgoing mail instead of the user's email address and appending the username of the user to the front.
Example:
- username abcd1234 with full name ABCD and email address <abcd1234@company.com>
- JIRA's configured outgoing mail as <jira@company.com>
If ABCD sends an email:
- in JIRA 4.4.5, JIRA displays the sender as "abcd1234@company.com"
- now, JIRA displays the sender as "abcd1234 <jira@company.com>"
what is expected is: "ABCD <abcd1234@company.com>"
It looks like <jira@company.com> is always displayed no matter whether a reply-to email is specified or not
However, if a user clicks on Reply from his mail client, the correct reply-to email will still be used instead of JIRA's configured outgoing mail.
Since some companies have user ids that do not give hints of the names, JIRA should append the Full Name instead. Apart from that, the user of displayed email address needs revising to minimize confusion.
