The current documentation on creating a notification scheme is incorrect in stating the following:

JIRA is pre-packaged with a notification scheme called Default Notification Scheme which, by default, is associated with all newly-created projects.

The way that JIRA works is that the user has to:

      • Create the project eg: "test"
      • Go to admin > Click on Projects > "test"
      • Scroll to Notifications > Scheme > None
      • Actions > Select a Scheme
      • Scheme > Default Notification Scheme > Associate

This is the case for 4.4.x and 5.0.x as far as it has been tested.
