REST modules and classloader problems

We keep running into what appears to be classloader issues with REST plugin modules. I posted the details initially over in the user forum: http://forums.atlassian.com/thread.jspa?threadID=38374&tstart=0. Simple use cases work correctly, but other scenarios like an invalid request or throwing an exception from your service results in ClassCastException or NoClassDefFoundError.
