    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

We are currently in the process of deploying Confluence questions within our intranet. We've noticed that when a user clicks on a question the system navigates them to a different page instead of opening questions in a new window. We see this as a threat to user retention as there is no strong "link back" process and no way to edit the page to add a "tip". We've noted the "source" link option, however, we would have to train 7000 users to remember that step.

We are requesting an enhancement that would allow Questions to open in a new window. Please advise on the feasibility of this and potential turnaround time.

      Thank you!

            Hi Nicole,

Thanks for sending your feedback. Can this situation be remedied with the user either clicking the back button on the browser chrome or right clicking and opening link in new tab?

Our link behaviours are consistent across all our products, the rule being that when a user clicks on a link it will open in the current window. In this case the user has the control to open the link in a new window or tab.

If the rule was introduced that the link will always open in a new window or tab, there is no way for the user to choose for the link to open the link in the current window. In this case we are taking control away from our user which will equate to a very poor user experience. This goes against our design values and principles.

I hope this clarifies our decision on the links behaviour. Once again thanks for sending your feedback.

            Regards
            Royce
