At present, Confluence has a feature whereby you can select some text on a page, click a JIRA icon and a Create Issue 'popover' appears. This is useful, but it is limited to creating top-level issues.

Our use case: as part of our development process, we write up proposed approaches to solve JIRA issues as pages in Confluence. Having done this, we then copy and paste the relevant sections of the text from Confluence to JIRA so we can create subtasks for each aspect as we work through the solution.

It would be great if we could do this using the Create Issue feature in Confluence, but it doesn't support subtasks.

So, the issue type menu could include subtask types, and when one is selected, an additional field could appear so the parent issue can be specified.
