Unable to add ‘Create from template’ Macro to a Global Template

      NOTE: This bug report is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

      Current Behaviour

      When creating or editing a Global Template and trying to add the ‘Create from template’ Macro the macro one of two things will occur:

      1. The editor hangs. Dropdowns aren't responsive.
      2. The editor loads, but the Template Name drop down list is not responsive. Because of this it's not possible to use the macro.

      Error message

      404 error is thrown in the browser console:

      Workarounds

      Workaround 1 (Recommended):

      1. Add the Create from Template macro to the Global Template
      2. Add any existing key to the Space Key (the bottom field in the macro)
      3. Now you can use the drop down and select the template to create from.
      4. Save the template, and then Edit it once again. This time remove the space key and save the template.

      Workaround 2:

      1. edit regular (non-template) Confluence page and add the ‘Create from template’ Macro to it;
      2. copy the macro from the page editor;
      3. edit a Global Template and past the macro copied in previous step;
      4. save the template - the macro button will work as expected.

            Affects 7.4.11 DC Version too.

            The workarounds 'works' but it saves the SpaceKey for which the button macro was created.  When a page uses that global template, for which it contains this Create From Template button, if the user does not 'Edit & Save' first, it will create the page in the original SpaceKey and not the current user spacekey.

            The documentation for this macro actually shows that the Space Key field is not supposed to be a required field. Why is this not the case? https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/create-from-template-macro-317196995.html

            We're on Confluence Cloud and experiencing the same issues. This is a huge problem for us. When will a fix come in?

            We are facing this issue on 7.4.0 and our instance has 2000 users, it's critical.

            This is still occurring in Confluence version 6.15.9.

            Another workaround option that works for us is to add the macro to the template and then apoint a space, then the templates are visible and can be selected. After selecting a template the space key is removed and the macro saved ok.

            The problem still exists on version 6.14.1

            I'm experiencing the problem on 6.0.3

            I tried the workaround. I created the buttons in a regular page & pasted the buttons into my global template. But when I create a page from the template, I click the publish button, and it just keeps spinning. The page doesn't publish.

            ----------

            Turns out the workaround didn't work for me because I had a LucidChart in the template. Also talking to LC now about what my options are (because can't use a screenshot or attachment in a template either).

            We are experiencing this in 5.9.12 Server. We are using the workaround, but it's a pain in the neck.
