    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Deleted pages will go to Trash and remain there until a space admin clicks on Purge.

This behaviour unfortunately may be obscure to some space administrators, plus it can be tedious to maintain manually.

We need to create a function in Confluence to auto purge trash or perhaps create an option of how often the space admin would prefer trash to be purged.

[CONFSERVER-18160] Allow Confluence to auto purge trash over a period of time

This is very disturbing as this shows as fixed yet in Confluence Server 7.19.1 there is NO General Configuration > Retention rules.

On "Clean up your Confluence instance" it states...

"Available in Confluence Data Center and Server 7.16 and later. "

Yet on "Set retention rules to delete unwanted data" it states...

"This feature is available with a Confluence Data Center license."

            Sad

@Renan - is there any tentative date when this feature will be released ?

@Renan,Auto purge of trash is most required feature since a long time. We also like to add when was the trash deleted. Or while setting up an automatic removal of trash we would like to have option which we enable us to set the number of days. For example data which is deleted 3 months ago should be purged automatically rest of the trash should not be purged.

            Hey everyone,

A quick update and a request for help.

We are very close to shipping a solution that would allow admins to set retention rules for page and attachment versions, and for automatically purging trash in Confluence.

However, we need your help to validate the UI and refine how we communicate the options.

We are planning to run a few user testing sessions over the next couple of weeks and would love if you could participate and give us your feedback.

            What's involved?

            • Sessions will be 45 minutes in length and conducted over video conference, with our team in Sydney.

            How do I participate?

            • We will confirm a few details before sending through a calendar invitation with video conference details
            • During the session, we will show you the UI for the feature we are planning to ship and ask you to complete a few tasks so we can learn about how easy the UI is to understand and what could be improved.
            • As a token of our appreciation, you'll receive a thank you gift following the completion of your session.

We can't guarantee that we will be able to speak with all interested parties but we definitely appreciate your interest and enthusiasm to help us make Confluence easier and more enjoyable to use.

            Thanks,

Renan | Product Manager, Confluence Server and Data Center

Hi, we add to this feature, this is important to us because the old pages on trash need to be deleted by security policy and actually you need to go space by space and also, you need it to do manually instead of be automatic.

So please, we have a large number of spaces (currently +400) and is a feature that the company demands

From current view, we cannot identify since when the document is lying in trash and we may end up purging a document which was deleted just yesterday. So Atlassian should add 2 features

            1. Display when the document was deleted and may be a sort function on date so that space admin can purge documents based on deletion date.
            2. A scheduled and configurable job to auto purge the deleted documents.

Our requirement would be to schedule a job which automatically deletes items from global spaces (not from personal spaces) which have been in trash for over 90 days. As of now, I have seen only the last modification date for items in the trash which indicates only when the object has been modified for the last time. This is not the timestamp when it got deleted/moved to trash so one would need to think of a rather complex custom solution to get our requirement implemented. As I think in enterprise context a requirement such as ours is not uncommon, please implement a configurable feature not only to auto purge the trash but also to define when and which items from the trash should be purged, also from which spaces/kind of spaces. Thank you very much in advance!

This can also lead to policy/legal violations.   If a new employee uploads something inappropriate, like personal information, and a manager deletes it, the parties involved often do not know that the item isn't really deleted.   It would keep the system much leaner and safer if there was a way to periodically remove trashed items.

Would be very beneficial for our large data center instance.

We need something like this since we have a very large enterprise and the space admins neglect purging the trash because of the all or nothing and purging individual files is cumbersome. If one could select files for purging or purge the last x files would be better than nothing. But automatically purging older than x days would be ideal. If you do implement this, the user modal stating that the admin can restore should provide the purge interval.
