By design, Confluence will add a line break everytime you hit Enter, the same happens when you copy and paste content into the editor.

Confluence could handle copied/pasted content more gracefully, by avoiding adding an extra space when there's already an extra space added to the content. This can be very annoying to users, specially if they make a heavy use of the copy/paste feature.
