When a user clicks on a full-sized image, a lightbox is displayed containing the same full sized image. This functionality makes sense for thumbnail images, however full sized-images should not have this enabled as it provides no useful benefit.
The case for:
If users expect a larger image after clicking on the image, they might be less inclined to utilise this feature if they continually receive the same, full-sized image in the lightbox.
The case against
This is pretty standard web functionality and it could confuse people if some images didn't show in a lightbox after a click. We might end up with a situation where people wonder if the functionality is working correctly and this might generate more support calls to internal IT and Atlassian.
The workaround
Putting the image within a link to an anchor or ID on the page. This will disable the lightbox, albeit in a roundabout sort of way.
