Confirmed on CAC Version: 2.2.1a Build:#515

Attached PDF export generated by selecting all in space Confluence ie full export of CONF20 space.

Acrobe fails with error 109. Possibly related to images (png?) if similar to http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-3609

To duplicate, visit http://confluence.atlassian.com/spaces/exportspace.action?key=CONF20 and export all.

Last week I tried again exporting the Confluence 2.0 User Guide space, and it DID work when reading with Adobe Reader. Has anything been changed since this call was opened? Successful export file attached.

One comment I must add, though: all text which is tagged in 'code' format does not show in the exported PDF. Is this bug documented somewhere?

David Soul [Atlassian] added a comment - 07/Jun/06 01:11 AM
Reviewing the fixed bugs relating to PDF export between then and now does not indicate which fix addressed this issue as well. It does not appear related to the problem found with missing attachments patched in 2.2.2. I'll just chalk it up as fixed and if the issue reappears we will eopen it.

Reoccuring on confluence.atlassian.com running 2.3

To reproduce, visit http://confluence.atlassian.com/spaces/exportspace.action?key=CONF20 and export as PDF

This problem is still occuring in version 2.3.1

This issue was tested with the standalone version on Linux Ubuntu 6.06 in the following manner:

1. Uploaded an XML export of the Conf 2.0 Documentation.
2. Verified that this upload is working by creating an XML export of the uploaded Document Space.
3. Did a PDF export of the Document Space.
4. Attempted to open the extracted PDF with Acrobat Reader 7.0 and got Error 109.
5. To confirm the PDF is not corrupted, I opened the PDF with Evince 0.5.2 (Postscript and PDF Viewer) and it worked fine.

You can test the attached PDF.

Report from a customer of PDF Error 109 for Confluence User Guide on a Mac:

Hi Rosie,

I've downloaded <http://confluence.atlassian.com/download/attachments/176727/CONF20-20070221-18_24_45.pdf> several times and ways and get error 109 when I try to open it in Acrobat 7.0 Professional (v 7.0.9) on an Intel Mac. I saw that there were reports of problems on the Windows platform, but this is under OS X on a Mac (System Version: 10.4.9).

As an additional information point, the pdf displays correctly in Safari, using the Safari pdf plug-in. It is only when I open the saved document (either after a download file, or after displayed in the browser) that I get the errors. In the plug-in I think it displays perfectly.

Very strange.

Dave Soul advises that the PDFs can be read using Foxit

This (http://confluence.atlassian.com/download/attachments/176727/CONF20-20070221-18_24_45.pdf) works for me in:

OS X 10.4.9, Preview
Windows XP, Acrobat Reader 4

it fails with:

OS X 10.4.9, Acrobat Reader 8

If you export http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF20/Working+with+Spaces+Overview and view it with Preview you notice that the embedded image has been replaced with an enormously stretched icon.

This is fixed in 2.5 – we still need to do an export when c.a.c is upgraded to 2.5 and replace the current corrupt PDF files.

Rosie Jameson [Atlassian] added a comment - 29/Apr/07 07:50 PM
Unfortunately this still appears to be broken.

I just exported the Confluence User Guide as a PDF, and it gives the '109' error when I try to read any of the pages.

CAC version: 2.5 Build:#805 Apr 26, 2007

Added Java Advance Imaging library that allows us to embed png images into PDF documents. The previous library we were using did not support png format.

There is a workaround that does not require migration to the new version to fix the problem. You will need to delete the previous library (jimi-1.0.jar under WEB-INF/lib) and include a new one (jai-core.jar and jai-codec.jar) Files are available from https://jai.dev.java.net/binary-builds.html#Release_builds

Does this mean I can "restore" an XML export to a new space?

Which PDF export bugs have been fixed with this release?
