    • We collect Bitbucket feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

Atlassian status as of November 2023

      Hi everyone,

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your input and understand the importance of addressing our users' suggestions. Unfortunately, we don't have plans to address this specific suggestion in the next 12 months.

However, I want to assure you that your feedback is valuable to us. Over the last 12 months we have successfully implemented many highly voted suggestions including code-owners, resolvable comments and auto-merge and our upcoming roadmap includes a number of other top voted suggestions including dark theme, draft pull requests and multi-line comments. For the most up-to-date information on what features are coming soon please visit our roadmap.

In the meantime, we hope that everyone might consider an established 3rd-party add-on - Snippets for Bitbucket. Our ecosystem is an important aspect of the product, providing flexibility where people want different or additional functionality, and maintaining simplicity where they don't.

Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Your feedback plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our product. We do continually review these priorities and will continue to do so over the coming year to determine when and how we might be able to address this idea. You can learn more about our prioritization process here.

      Cheers,

      Sarah Bolt

      Original request description

Implement ability to share arbitrary snippets of code with other team members. Snippets should have sharable direct links, be versioned and accept comments/changes.

            [BSERV-2628] Code snippet sharing

Wow, seriously? A paid plug-in? Yeah, I can't wait to ask my company to drop $2000 on a plugin that provides what should be a core feature.

            gmcdonald1,

Bitbucket Server and Bitbucket Cloud don't share any code in common, UI or backend (the backends are in different programming languages, with Server in Java and Cloud primarily in Python), so implementing a feature in one, aside from solving design problems, really doesn't do much to speed implementing it in the other. ("Solved design" is a double-edged sword, though, as it also sets expectations that make shipping MVP functionality more difficult--users already know how they expect the feature to work and it's a source of friction/frustration when it doesn't.)

            Best regards,
            Bryan Turner

            Hi ikhan and bturner,

Let me clear this up - I'm not frustrated, just curious. Thank you for your responses.

This feature is already available in Bitbucket cloud, and has been since March 2015. I assume the architecture between Bitbucket server and cloud (or the supporting infrastructure) is significantly different in order for this item to require "a huge development effort".

Off topic: It's fantastic that your support team is involved in feature delivery!

One further point of clarification re: the unicorn emoji. That was actually not even completed by a member of the Bitbucket Server team. It was implemented by a member of the support team, as a bit of fun. Aside from clicking "Approve" on the pull request, no one from Bitbucket Server was involved with that issue.

            Hi kyle.sexton

I can understand your frustration. Due to other important priorities we haven't planned to address this suggestion. Feedback on suggestions posted here is important consideration for our roadmap and recently, we have resolved number of highly voted suggestions like:

            https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BSERV-4203
            https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BSERV-3017
            https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BSERV-8384
            https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BSERV-2556

It's unfair to compare this suggestion with adding an emoji. Adding the emoji was a single line change, which one of our team members decided to spend few minutes on to make users happy. It didn't require road-mapping and prioritisation against other features, design or a huge development effort which this suggestion will definitely require. Learn more about our process here.

            Cheers,
            Imran

            +1 from me too.

Regarding this quote from Norman Ma:

"In the last 12 months, we've resolved 10 of the top 30 feature requests, and our upcoming roadmap includes a number of other top voted suggestions"

It's great that you're resolving the top feature requests, but I must ask as my curiosity has gotten the better of me - was the lack of a unicorn emoji more requested than this suggestion?

This has been available in the Cloud for a while now.  There seems to be no plan to bring this behind the firewall.

I am going to evaluate the plugin; but no idea if snippets are indexed by the new elasticsearch.
