I was using 2.x. The software tells me there is an update for 3.0.8 in the top right orange flag menu. Instead of closing the programming and attempting to update, it showed the sourcetree logo and then did nothing.
I tried to close and open it, then it showed me it was the new version.
Then it stopped working and hanged a few minutes later, when I wasn't even using it yet.
Then it refused to work at all after opening it again.
I redownloaded sourcetree 3.0.8 from the home page, and installed it. Sourcetree was able to open again.
I think you should assume that at least the built-in updater has a bug that allows it to do a corrupted installation on top of the running process by mistake. Or possibly that sourcetree 3.0.8 is able to hang and stop working, though I need more time using it to know if that is true.
The update will install but it will not shutdown your running instance, you will get a 2nd notification asking you to restart.
If you are still experiencing hanging behaviour with 3.0.12 please report it.
thanks
