Problem Definition
There are a number of Proxy and Load Balancer solutions that requires user authentication before sending the request to the backend application – i.e. Azure AD Application Proxy (Remote access to on-premises applications through Azure AD Application Proxy).
The Proxy then can send identity and other data as an HTTP Header to the application (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
This simplifies the authentication flow to the user and the administration of the environment.
Suggested Solution
Support HTTP Header based authentication through the Atlassian Authentication App (SSO App).
Workaround
Use an Atlassian Marketplace App providing this feature.
[SAMLDC-58] As an administrator I would like to configure HTTP header authentication on Atlassian Data Center products
Description | Original: Beyond normal IDP/SP authentication we'd like to see the SAML for DC plugin support SAML tokens that are included in HTTP headers as opposed to browser POST requests. Currently, the system does not support this at the time of this ticket's creation. |
