We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.
As a product owner, I want to use the epic gadgets in a confluence page summary or jira dashboard summary to communicate the epic's overall status.
This helps to fulfill a need of showing overall status of a product roadmap and portfolio.

[JSWSERVER-9049] Epic progress gadget
This would be super useful for any scaled agile environment! We have several teams working on several EPICs in parallel to get a proposition launched. Having a view that allows us to pull this as a single view (with a grouping on EPICs) is pretty much becoming essential for us - to the point where we have to drag the data out into an excel and do this manually each sprint!! Come on Atlassian - this is a must have feature now! Pretty please
It's amazing how something like this isn't available yet after all these years. So many requests or it I really don't know what Atlassian is doing. No wonder they are being passed by competitors with a much more agile and user focus atitude
My team wants to discuss groups of epics and the primary field we want to see is for a list of epics, the Epic % Complete (or Epic Progress) in a single view in a Jira query and/or on a confluence page. Really what would work for us would be to add the existing Jira widget to Confluence but the ability to include an "Epic Progress %" bar field (or even just the % number) that displays the % complete for each epic. Confused on why something this simple doesn't exist as a field on epics for out-of-the-box reporting.
We generate weekly status reports for our customer based on Sprint and Epics. It would be great if we could look at overall sprint progress and epic progress nested each week.
Hi. I have several thousand Server based users.
We have a range of stakeholders that want to be able to see the burn down of Epic's on a dashboard or on a confluence page.
Totally agree. The Epic report is confusing and not a good simple visual to help report to upper team members. The closest thing I have been able to find is and Issue Statistics gadget on my dashboard. However these cannot be inserted into Confluence.
Would indeed be a very useful Gadget for displaying the progress of the epics in a nice visual way.
Basically i expect when a Dashboard is released, It should have all the basic Charts and information of a Sprint or a Release to be ready for use. When this tool so popular in the IT how so slow in providing simple solutions.
Need to have solid reporting options for Epics. This includes Confluence integration.
Yes, this would be super helpful. All reports should be available as gadgets, but as a starting point this one would be awesome. As it stands, we have to teach leadership interested in tracking the progress of an epic to go to the reports section, find the report, and pull up each epic for which he/she is interested.
is there a close alternative at least? other than embedding a Jira report noone bothers to read
It is surprising that this is still open. Considering there are more and more business teams have started using Jira and Reports on Dashboards is the most sought-after feature. Why is it difficult to atleast give a time line when it can be done, instead of making users wait?
I've given up on Atlassian for providing this option in JIRA. It seems silly that a feature that is already calculated on the epics from the backlog cannot be pulled anywhere else. Especially something that should be considered an obvious need for anyone reporting on the status of a project.
Same need from our end as well. The Dashboard is what we use for a summary across all teams and work and bringing the Epic status summary would be hugely helpful when sharing with Senior Execs.
I've been creating "% epic complete" visuals in Excel for 1.5 years... I'd love to see this as report in JIRA so I can include it in dashboards.
Management/Leadership are asking for this for their 'big picture' Dashboards. Any news to report on implementation plans?
Agreed; we would like to post multiple Epic Progress gadgets on our sprint dashboards to assist in status monitoring.
Still hoping this functionality will be available soon. You already have the percentage completed in the status bar on the epic but it is virtually useless if there is no way to pull that information into any reporting other than to hover over the progress bar and input in manually every time.
Total agree with Krista. We need this functionality to show progress of epic. if we can show percentage completion of story points, that will be very beneficial our teams.
I am also looking for this functionality! would like to have a gadget that I can put on a JIRA dashboard and/or pull into confluence that shows the epic completion percentage from the agile board and the forecasted number of sprints remaining from the epic burndown. this would be beneficial for the teams, mgmt and executive stakeholders to see the status of all epics across an initiative on one dashboard.
Hi there,
We just published this functionality as a gadget on the marketplace:
I would like to add that it would be nice if the reports that are available in JIRA 7+ Agile boards could be added to dashboards. Saves tons of clicks, and provides value. My executive stakeholders don't want to click around through agile boards to find the one or two critical charts. They want one dashboard that has them.
What's the point in reports that can't be put on dashboards? Severely limits who ends up seeing and using the reports.
This would be a HUGE help. I can't believe someone has not found a way to do this yet.
David, thanks for the feedback. I understand the request. I failed to mention that I use the Agile Wallboard Gadget in my dashboards and have updated my original comment to help clarify.
Scott Morris - you have failed to understand the scope of this feature request.
This is not a request for functionality within the Agile boards - this is a request for functionality on JIRA dashboards; a location which JIRA Agile has so far quite largely missed.
I think that talking about work board, not plan. Work board not contains epic progress. It displays only story/tasks.
This feature is already implemented in the Scrum Board. If you expand the Epic column, there is a blue bar under each Epic graphically depicting how much work has been done (assuming its story/task count vs. status). It would be awesome if we could get that same blue bar displayed in a widget for the dash board to easily show others the progress of an Epic.
I like to use the Agile Wallboard Gadget in my dashboards, so it would be cool if the same progress bar could be added to a board and then shown on my dashboard.
This would be greate development in Agile plugin, especially for product owner, when he need to show progress
Any updates on this one? My Solution Mgt team always wants to know how many stories in an Epic are complete and I find myself exporting lots of data to excel to get them the chart they are looking for.
We are also evaluating other tools for roadmapping but would much prefer to be able to do this within JIRA.
We'd like this too, but are now evaluating roadmapping products like Aha to provide these kinds of views for management and Product.
I'm also hoping to see this gadget since we're in the same situation as Gary.
Was this issued deprioritized? This feature would be a huge plus for us. Our team of about 18 developers sets quarterly goals. We hope to accomplish about 20 to 30 different features per quarter, each with varying sizes (from 2 to 12 weeks). We translate each of these to epics, prioritize them, add sprint-size stories, allocate team members, and then use 2 week sprints to track our progress. The Epic Burndown chart is great for tracking progress (although it would be great if there was a marker for the due date field), but hard to figure out which epics are in trouble without going to all 20-30 reports one at a time. What we need is a way to quickly glance at the charts for all current epics in a single dashboard – we can then drill down to the Epic Burndown chart as needed.
I am hoping to get this feature to make my dashboard really kick. Our management and development teams respond to the visual representation of information so much more strongly than text.
This function is just mandatory for Product Owners
I hope you guys we have some time for it.
It could be great to have the epic progress in all time and the possibility to see the epic progress by sprint.
I currently have to create a specific version to follow the progress of an Epic and use the GreenHopper Classic Project Progress widget.
Many thanks for reporting this issue. We see it as a valid feature request however we cannot provide any guidance at this time as to when, or if, we'll be implementing it.
Regards,
GreenHopper Team
Yeah this would really be great. We use epics as those "bullet points" to have context for our management meetings. Being able to articulate how far along a particular epic is, given a particular sprint is very helpful, especially when epics last multiple sprints and management keeps seeing the same ol' bullet points
Still waiting?? Do we have any ETA on this?
