    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

Please implement a way that I can see the total number of points in the backlog, or how many points are in a particular status. I currently use the Issues Navigator to export and use filters in Excel which is extremely primitive for such an expensive tool. I would also like to know if there is a dashboard feature / plugin which I can get a view on a particular project (preferably where I can select the 'fix versions' by filter as well) and have the following summary of the current situation:

      Points Issue Status

      60 Done
      16 In QA
      47 In Progress
      26 Blocked
      85 Not started

      234 Total points in backlog

Please implement this as soon as possible because it's extremely difficult to track projects without this view!

[JSWSERVER-3676] Implement a way to see the total number of points in the backlog!

We have just moved across some of our projects from Next-gen to Classic to take advantage of some other features. However it means we seem to have lost some as well. This includes the ability to see the total number of story points in our backlog. This really hinders my ability for planning and to see how much the backlog is growing or reducing. Agree with the above it would be a great addition. You are trying to sell people advanced features in Classic but missing out some of the simple ones.

I would absolutely love to see this feature as i currently have a sprint created called "backlog" purely so i can see the points sum. with this approach i loose the ability to "send to the top" and "send to the bottom" of the backlog which is highly annoying! Is this a bug or a strategic omission? I'm using Jira cloud.

Ok thanks.  We can't use Next-gen yet as there is still a subset of existing functions not in Next-Gen yet

Trevor, yes exactly. In the "Next-gen project" there is now a backlog counter.

Jonas what do you mean by New System?  Next Gen Project?

If you use the new system for creating a project, there is actually now a counter in the backlog. Very handy!

I really can't believe this has not been implemented yet.  Does no one try to predict release dates?

As a scrum master, I need the backlog estimation total. The estimate total should update when filtered by Epic/Version or Quick Filters.

So, any updates on this issue (with 4 closed duplicates) from 2011? Maybe 5 more years for this "feature"?

This is desired for any user of Jira. Please implement so that it is possible to see the size of the backlog.

In our project, we do also need an idea of the amount of work hanging around in the "Backlog". Currently we are using a greasemonkey extension to do this, but we would really like to see this as part of the product !

Please, this! Right now, to do a backlog burndown is a very tedious thing.

            Agreed. Thanks Sven.
I have asked that this be escalated directly to Product Management to be included in the short term roadmap.

they have to add only this view for the backlog.

Agreed. We need to see total estimates of all the bugs/improvements/stories etc that we have in the backlog. I'm having to copy and paste from Jira into a spreadsheet which is not efficient and prone to error. (this seems like an easy fix as Jira already provides a summary at the top of a Sprint).

I appreciate the comment; however, it would be helpful if there were a gadget that you could include on your dashboard or within confluence so that you don't have to drill into each rapid board for each project. We have several teams and sprints going on simultaneously and I'm looking for ways to improve the efficiency in gathering the statistics and metrics. So, something like the roadmap gadget that indicates progress based on story points, total story points, and projected.

Hi karie.kelly@phytel.com: You might like to check out the Scrum for Rapid Board features that are available in labs in GreenHopper 5.9.x, the Sprint marker can be used to do the sort of thing you're looking for.

This would be very beneficial given the purpose of greenhopper and in support of the methodologies that have story points. The total story points for a backlog or in a given status, as well as for a given version are quite helpful in determining velocity and provide an easy mechanism to get to those numbers for executive level reporting and dashboards regarding velocity and backlog.
