"Edit Mode", Save, Cancel, and missing information

We use Jira regularly, are pretty hardcore about it, and generally love it.  But there is one small problem that occasionally drives us crazy.

When you click on the description field of a Jira issue, you go into what I'll call "Edit Mode", where you can edit the contents of that field.  There are two buttons, Save, and Cancel, and when you're done editing you click one of those buttons and all works great.

The issue I care about is when something happens and you exit "Edit Mode" without hitting either the Save or Cancel button – say if you close the browser before hitting either button.

In that case, the Jira Issue – when in NORMAL mode – still looks like it did before the edits (as the edits have never been saved nor canceled).  However, if you happen to go back into "Edit Mode", the edits are still there and you can continue from where you left off.

This functionality to get back to the information is great – the problem is that sometimes, if you are busy creating a number of JIRAs and using cloning and subtasks and other features, you DO NOT ALWAYS REALIZE that the edits were neither saved or cancelled and that the Jira has otherwise seemingly reverted (when being viewed other than in Edit Mode) to what it was before.

This effectively results in any edits being lost....unless/until the user realizes that this happened.

      So my request:

When a Jira has lots of information when in Edit Mode that is different than when not in Edit Mode, but that information was neither saved nor cancelled, then when the user who was making the edits views the JIRA, there needs to be a huge colored star or other visual indicator "edits are in progress but not saved".  This will let that user realize that they need to go back into "Edit Mode" to properly save and update the Jira for all to see....so that the information is not lost.

Please add this feature if/when it makes sense.  If you need more information or explanation of what I'm trying to say here, please reach out at mike.saperstein@aresinteractive.com

      Thanks very much!!

(And if this should have gone to another project on your side, please move it as appropriate.  Thanks!)
