Tell the user why issues in a view cannot be reordered when the Sort order is not set to Rank

    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

If a user attempts to reorder issues in an Advanced Roadmap plan but the sort order for the view is set to something other than Rank, the reordering has no effect. However, the user does not know why they can't reorder the issues. If fact, it appears that they can (they can drag and drop issues), but the changes do not stick. It would be nice to display a message to the user explaining that they cannot reorder issues unless the view is sorted by Rank.

If the filter for a board is not sorted by Rank, Jira displays the following message when the user attempts to reorder issues, explaining why the action cannot be done:

Ranking is disabled, as the Filter Query for this board is not ordered by ascending Rank. Please check your filter configuration.

Advanced Roadmaps needs a similar message for this scenario in plans.
