Summary

Intermittently, an agile Kanban project with Backlog enabled doesn't display the "Backlog" section icon in the sidebar menu or the "Kanban board" option. Scrum boards don't show the "Backlog" and "Active Sprints" icons in the sidebar menu.

      Environment

      • JIRA Software

      Cause

The memory cache of the board doesn't contain a project ID, although the filter does, so the board is considered to be without a project and so it doesn't display the options. This cache is rebuilt every 30 minutes so the problem fades away.
For this reason, the problem doesn't affect all board but it does affect all users accessing the board.

The reason for the cache being incorrect is still unknown.

      Steps to Reproduce

      While the problem is happening

      1. Go to a board with the problem.

Somehow board cannot get the project ID so Backlog is missing.

      Expected Results

The left bar would show "Backlog" section icon.

      Actual Results

      "Backlog" section icon is missing.

      Workaround

      Background Reindex JIRA
The problem may still happen again in the future and another reindex will be needed to refresh the memory cache.

Alternatively navigate to the board using the Board menu. Backlog can be accessed by adding &view=planning to the board URL.
