My team-managed (formerly next-gen) project has a 'Version' filter on the Backlog view but the active sprint board doesn't have that filter. When we trying to understand in the current sprint what stories/bugs are for the upcoming release vs. those stories for a later release this filter is very important.

We had the filter in the old projects and used it religiously.

It is not ideal but you can create custom filters (perhaps for each version you are currently most commonly referring to) on the Board screen:
