Description
Problem
Currently, when checking an issue that is assigned to an epic, the references to the epic vary in content depending on the field that is checked. Please check the breakdown below of what is seen in a story assigned to an epic:
- The breadcrumbs show only the Epic Key. Example "ABC-123"
- What you see in the Epic Link field is the Epic Name. Example "Original epic name when the epic was created"
- When hovering the breadcrumbs, the breadcrumb's tooltip shows the Epic Key, followed by the Epic Summary. Example "ABC-123: Updated epic summary that differs from the epic name"
- When hovering the Epic Link, the Epic Link tooltip shows a card with Epic Key, Epic Name, and Epic Summary
This can lead to confusion for end users, as in each field a different piece of information is shown in regards to the epic associated.
Suggested Solution
- Show only Epic Name or Epic Summary in their child issues, to prevent confusion when the Epic Summary was changed along the way, making it different from the Epic Name. This should be consistent for
- Breadcrumbs
- Epic Link field
- Tooltips
- Make the breadcrumb epic issue key be followed by a brief epic summary. It can be truncated to a fixed length for longer epic summaries. Example: change the breadcrumbs from "ABC-123" to "ABC-123: Updated epic summ..."
Why This Is Important
This will make the same information be shown consistently on different fields and tooltips, preventing confusion from end users when the epic summary is differing from the epic name.
Workaround
Manually change the Epic Name to reflect the updated Epic Summary. Even so, it doesn't cover all points described here.
