Option to drill down to the Subtask level in the Timeline (Formerly Roadmap)

      Problem Definition

After implementing JSWCLOUD-17442 the option to drill down to stories was added to the roadmap but the ability to see the subtasks of those stories is not avaliable so at the moment hiding details useful to the roadmap view as you cannot see the subtask issue below the stories in the roadmap

      Suggested Solution

Enable seeing the child Subtasks alongside Epics and Stories in the roadmap for the full hierarchy visibility

      Update on 22 January 2024

      Hi all,

We are reviewing this request at the moment and will provide a follow-up in a few months time. We understand that especially with the recent release of subtasks support in backlog, there is a higher interest for subtasks to be made visible in Timeline.

At the time being, as some of you have noted in the comments below - you can use Timeline inside Plans for this purpose. Plans can take a single or multiple projects, boards, and filters as their issue sources and display the relevant Jira issues, including subtasks.

Plans are available for Jira Premium (https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/premium) . You can learn more about Plans here: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/guides/advanced-roadmaps/overview#what-is-advanced-planning . Just head over to the “Plans” menu item on top navigation in Jira to give it a go.

Thank you for your patience on this request.

      Regards,

      Irene Ongkowidjaja

      Senior Product Manager

Update from Jira Software Cloud team on 31st August 2022

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We hear your concerns.

_After the recent release of displaying story/task level issues on the timeline in Kanban projects, we can now assess this request appropriately. https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-articles/What-s-new-in-the-Roadmap-view-I-m-so-glad-you-asked/ba-p/2077594_

When commenting or voting on this ticket, we are always interested to know the "why" behind your team's need for the ability to drill down or plan on this granular level with sub-tasks, or what context you or stakeholders are missing by not seeing any information related to subtasks.

_We appreciate your insights - and if you would like to chat in detail about this,  feel free to reach out to the team directly: jira-cloud-roadmaps@atlassian.com

      Thanks,
Rathesh Richards, Product Manager, Jira Software Cloud_
