    Description

      Problem Definition

With the introduction of the The new Jira issue view on both the Full screen pop up and Side bar view on a Board, the text and comment fields have inconsistent behavior to the same fields on the main jira issue view, noting:

The editor in the new issue view uses markdown rather than wiki markup. Right now, if you've added wiki markup in the old editor, we'll render it correctly in the new issue view.

As we continue to roll out the new issue view and new editor, wiki markup support will be phased out and eventually removed in favor of markdown.

In the New Views Wiki markup does not work and only the Rich Text Editor (RTE) options are available with markdown, where editing the same fields from the direct issue view both wiki markup and RTE options are available, leaving an inconsistent experience

      Suggested Solution

Both options have benefits, Using wiki markup in Text View is extremely useful for power users comfortable with the formatting, allowing for faster on the fly edits, where RTE allows for WISIWIG layout for visual inspection prior to posting, Support for Markup and markdown rather than phasing out markup in favor of markdown similar to current field behavior would be appreciated.
