            Vince,

This is very stange. May I ask if you are are trying to install the standalone distribution? Also, what version of JIRA are you using? And one what operating system?

I am assuming that you are using Windows.

If so, could you try removing everything that you have extracted before from the zip file and then use WinZip to extarct it. Once you have extracted it, could you ensure that the following directory exists:
            atlassian-jira-professional-3.3.2-standalone/temp

and that the user JIRA is started as has permissions to write to this directory.

If so, could you try starting JIRA again and completeting the Setup Wizard. When specifying an index directory please specify a path to another directory on disk where JIRA can write to. Please do not specify atlassian-jira-professional-3.3.2-standalone/temp, but chose another directory.

If the problem still persists, coudl you please attach your latest log file.

The problem can happen if the atlassian-jira-professional-3.3.2-standalone/temp does not exist or is not writable.

Also I am not sure what you mean by "re-run the setup". Do you mean "startup.bat" script?

            Thanks,
            Anton

I used the zip download - when I go in and change the INDEX directories to (not) read only, And re-run the setup script, it resets them to read only. Every time.

            Vince,

I think this is happening because the temp\ directory is not readable/writeable by the user running JIRA (further details at http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-8188).

I'm not sure how it happened though. Did you download the zip or tar.gz distribution?

            Cheers,
            Jeff

            Hi Drake,

Are you able to attach your full logs? These should give us more information and help us track down the problem.
