JQL is not able to search for issues using "և" character in the field

Summary

1. Create a Select List (Single Select) Custom Field and add in "և" as an option
2. Create an issue and assign the created custom field with the option value
3. Go to Issue Navigator and set the JQL to filter out issues with option value "և"

Expected Results

Able to see the issue that has been assigned the "և" option

Actual Results

Is getting a JQL error

Workaround

Replace all the "և" characters with "եւ"

Interestingly enough, if the Custom Field has both options ("և" & "եւ"), when the JQL is set to search for issues with "և", there will not be any error messages but the results will show issues with the "եւ" option:
