NOTE: This suggestion is for JIRA Server. Using JIRA Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Since JIRA 6.2 we have status ordering so they can appear in such order is necessary. But only having up and down actions that refresh the entire screen make ordering all statuses a really really painful task.

We have around 40 statuses and I can think of sorting algorithms while I do the repeated tasks and wait while the screen refreshes. A simple position information like ordering fields in a screen would make it much less painful.

            [JRASERVER-41362] Easier status ordering

Having to click up and down every time and the page being reload again and again is really frustrating. Of course there is an article in the community (https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Agile-articles/Reordering-Jira-Statuses/ba-p/938473) but let's be perfectly honest. I don't want to waste my valuable time neither using another tool to do the reordering for me nor clicking myself to death using the feature you provide.

Great user experience is something different than you provide for that status page in regards to reordering defined statuses. And of course there are companies that will have more than just 10 or 20 statuses.

Please reconsider and provide us with an easy way to reorder Jira statuses via the admin GUI, for example by providing the an order value we can enter or simply using drag and drop.

mkowalska - I came here to find this and vote for it. As it is resolved, I can't vote for it to show any increased interest.

In particular this issue affects dashboard gadgets, like the two-dimensional filter statistic gadget, as well as the sort order when using filters in Jira or Confluence. It shows the statuses in the order they show on the statuses page and does not respect the workflow order as one would expect.

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-44595 is the same issue, but suggesting a different resolution.

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-5967 basically the same issue, asking for a different solution, but would be resolved with the ability to easily reorder statuses on the statuses page

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-35938 mentions the two-dimensional filter gadget issue

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-61221 Same issue, want easier reordering of statuses

It would be good if it worked the same as the custom field multiselect  ordering whereby you enter the row number you want the status to be.

Please, add a drag & drop functionality to reorder statuses!

I checked and have 140 statuses in the system. It takes me about 8-15 minutes to move one status from the top to the bottom and I cannot do anything else while working on this. Please make this like the screen config pages where you can drag custom fields up and down or the custom field value ordering page which allows for positional numbers to be used (or if possible have both). My preference would be the positional number method since dragging items on screens from top to bottom doesn't really work well if there are a lot of items (you need to drag to the top of the page, then scroll up, then find the item again and drag, etc.).
