Description
Basically, the design of the lock file affects more customers than it should. If JIRA hangs or the shutdown script doesn't work correctly, a lock file is left in the home directory. What's worse, it's a system file, which makes it difficult to find (the documentation is hard to find and too difficult.
For a justification, go to Google and type in "jira is " to see the recommendations (include the space). You'll see that "Jira is locked" and "jira is already locked". It's a common search. Many customers are likely to be finding the solution via google, but we should prevent the issue in the first place by redesigning the locking mechanism.
