Full reindex without locking Jira - reindex all issues one-by-one?

      Jira updates the index for issues whenever you edit them, right? Could not a full reindex be issued this way also - search all issues and reindex all of them separately, one-by one? This would not require Jira to be locked and would still allow a full reindex to be done, even for very large instances.

      Is this possible/easy to implement perhaps? I know it would take a very long time to complete a full reindex this way (depending on the number of issues), but this would also enable making a full reindexing in instances where this is otherwise not possible (24/7 use).
