I find the sub-tasks very useful in terms of organizing work and monitoring progress. However, it is difficult to organize the sub-tasks. There are two views: All and Open. To change the order of the sub-tasks in the list, I would have to move each one up or down, one position at a time. It becomes quite a chore when there are 20 or more sub-tasks.

It would be very useful to have some ways to sort them:

      • by sub-task names
      • by assignee
      • by status
      • by priority

            [JRASERVER-12578] Add sorting for sub-tasks

Very much needed, my team gets sub-tasks from other teams, and we can't control them. We are unable to quickly sort their priority work to the top of the column. Very time consuming to remind people to give us type = Task, or explain to them why it must be so.

Definitely needed! - And that same sort order needs to reflect in the bulk operations list as well. If I drag to my own sort order, then do a bulk operations, they are out of whack again and in the order of creation.

            This feature is highly needed.

            We really need this feature.

So now everyone is forced into the new where it's not possible to sort sub-tasks or show extra fields. Does anyone know a workaround for this? We might migrate to another platform because of this issue.

No idea why this feature request has no attention and that work-arounds are needed. Drag and drop is fine if you only have a few sub-tasks. It would be nice if someone would pick this back up. At minimal to be able to sort on the status.

Martin, you've resolved this issue as "Answered", but I think "Won't Fix" would be the more correct choice, and it would allow us to query for these types of requests in future.

Many thanks for reporting this issue, however this is not something we plan to add to JIRA at this time.

We are considering showing the display of sub-tasks by priority so please follow the related issue for progress: JRA-24547

Sorting by creation date would be nice, same as for comments...

I like this issue and voted for it. However, I find that subtask ordering often defies rational values, so I hope that JRA-24547 (drag and drop sub-task sorting) gets preference.

The sorting ability for sub-tasks by columns on a parent issue would be extremely helpful. Apparently (from Jira help) it is possible to configure the columns to show when viewing sub-task issues in a table such as under a parent issue. So, the Jira users in my company and I would like to be able to sort the sub-tasks by any columns that we choose to view the sub-tasks with (that would be assignee, status, progress).

Is there a workaround for sorting sub-tasks that would work with the existing Jira functionality? Thanks!
