      User Story:
      As a Product Manager

I want to add Milestones to my Roadmap

So that I can visually communicate significant dates on my roadmap to stakeholders

      Acceptance Criteria

      1. User can create milestone(s) against a roadmap.
      2. User can give the milestone a name and description(and specify a date)
      3. Milestones should appear as lines on the chart (similar to the way current date works).
      4. The user can drag the milestone to different dates.
      5. The user should see the name of a milestone is on the roadmap view.
      6. User can add and remove milestones from the view using the filters above the main chart.
      7. A user can select a milestone to edit or delete it.

            [JRACLOUD-91595] Milestones for Basic Roadmaps

            Using Releases works...

            • shows on timeline
            • issues can be associated with it
            • allows for other context and details to be saved with the release

            The drawbacks I see...

            • can be a little overkill if you just want a marker
            • not visible on boards (where my devs spend 95%) of there time

I created an Issue Type for milestones and plan on using that in combination with Releases to cover both angles.

            WORKAROUND:

If you’re not using Releases for software development, you can utilize this functionality to create milestones.

            Steps:

            1. DEVELOPMENT > Releases > Create a realease with "release date" as the date of the milestone.
            2. Timeline > View Settings > Enable "Releases" (if not)
            3. Timeline > Clic on your release (milestone) and check "Highligth on timeline"

Enjoy your new milestone line in the roadmap

I would like to see the ability to automatically create and display a milestone on the Initiative based on a specific collection of lower-level issues (epics, stories).  For example, assume a simple collection such as this:

I would like to display a "MVP" milestone at the Initiative level that was determined by the completion of the two stories with the MVP label; same with the two stories that have the NTH tag ("Nice to Have").  If the timing of those stories changed, the milestone displayed at the initiative level would adjust accordingly.

🎉 Happy Birthday to our most cherished and perpetually pending feature request! 🎂 It's been another spectacular year of adventurous stagnation and I couldn't let the day pass without celebrating our collective ambition to maybe, just maybe, see this through before the next leap year.

Al Chen, you've shown us the light with Coda—reminding us there's a world where milestones don't just exist in our dreams. Meanwhile, ajai.robin is still optimistically checking the calendar, wondering if 'soon' might finally have a due date.

Lisa Mitchell and Javier Garay, you're the real MVPs for trying to find workarounds. We're all magicians here, trying to pull milestones out of thin air, aren't we?

Michelle Hansen and Brecht Seys, your vision for a world where milestones and releases coexist is the dream we all sleepily nod to during yet another roadmap presentation.

And to everyone else who's +1'd this request into oblivion, your hope is the fuel that keeps this birthday candle burning year after year.

So, here's to another year of aspirational feature requests, where we might not have milestones, but we sure do have resilience. And to the Jira Software Cloud team, we eagerly await the day we can move this request from 'backlog' to 'done'. Until then, we'll be here, celebrating birthdays and marking time, one sarcastic comment at a time.

Cheers to more milestones (or at least talking about them) in the year ahead! 🍻

(Seriously though, can we get this done? Asking for a friend.)

If you sync your project's issues into Coda (disclosure: I work there), you can set up milestones to show up on a timeline. Steps to do this:

            1. Set up a Jira Sync Table of Jira Issues
            2. Add dummy issues to your backlog that don't have a due date
            3. Switch the layout of your Jira issues in Coda to a timeline layout
            4. Turn on milestones toggle
            5. The dummy issues with no end date will show up as milestones on the timeline

You can create a milestone issue type to handle this scenario. Then, you can add it to your project schema and use it within the roadmap, were you will be able to filter milestones using the issue type filter.

It would be nice to be able to see milestones along the releases in the Timeline and Plans view, to:

            • Share easily with stakeholders on issues within a milestone
            • Track progess on a milestone
            • If presented in the timeline view (perhaps under releases) you can easily see which issues are under which milestone and if they overlap with a release etc.
