The ability to set milestones at initiatives level in order to give visibility to project teams, scrum teams, business users of key initiatives dates (E.g. Expected Launch Date, Integration Test Date etc...) and help controlling (at least visually) that the initiative is on track with the date expectations.

            [JRACLOUD-89585] Milestones for Advanced Roadmaps

Is there an update on this since September? Any idea of a target date? Since recently migrating to Jira Cloud, I am in process of trying to meet the needs of our department by leverage Jira Plans, creating OKRs in Goals, embedding Jira plans into the Goals, etc. I am just missing this one detail of how to track Milestones as a part of that plan - my workaround is the most controversial part of our new process, slowing down my ability to get buy-in. If I can say, this will be an inherent part of our process (and not something that now requires a workaround) at this point in the future, it might make this an easier pill to swallow! I really appreciate all the other stuff though .

Also here to watch the status of this. Require ability to apply due dates for each step of the work flow for each individual issue and for this to be visible on the roadmap for planning & tracking. To identify if there any items past their due dates for any of the workflow phases as this could indicate in advance if something is at risk of not being completed on time.

"in the midst of the customer research study and will need a few more weeks to finalise our findings."  Really??? this issue was created 10 years ago and there is a constant stream of comments here from people requesting it. Surely just looking through that is enough research to determine that the ability to have "milestones" (which aren't releases) is something lots of people want/need. As you said yourself "we understand this is an important part of project management"

We typically have a 6 month release cycle but within that we have multiple 6 week program increments (which, some teams then break in to 2 week sprints)... being able to set milestones for the program increments (as well as other key milestone dates) would really help.

Is it necessary a study to determine that some one need mile-stones in project work? Am I the only one that react to this way to approach a long missing feature? Atlassian you don't need a study to decide to implement a project. Go and read some history books instead.

Milestones are a key part of project planning and management.  If this tool is to be used for project planning, then milestones must be included.

This was created 10 years ago!  And there has been very little movement except for it to be "future considered", and that was for 2023.

Please, this is a necessity.  My PMs won't even touch Advanced Roadmaps with out this.  They manage their projects in Excel.  Excel is winning out over you.  That's sad that we pay so much for a system that markets as a Management system.... but yet, no managers will use it.

Good morning.  I have been wondering the same thing on when this can get moved to production.  We are moving to Plans here in the next month.  This is something we really need as releases at our company don't work for milestones.  Are there screenshots you can show what is planned for development?  We are looking for something as simple as having the standard diamond shape with a title and due date.  We need the standard diamond shape, a name and an end date.  It would be great to have it be part of the Summary in Plans as well.  This is the type of information our leaders review and manage towards, as well as our delivery teams.  Please provide an update.  Thank you.

We are currently looking at Advanced Roadmaps through a 30 day free trial.  One of our must haves is the ability to identify milestones (potentially as a the diamond symbol) in our plan.  This is similar functionality to the current tool we use (BigPicture).  Please provide an update on when this feature will be available as it will be part of our decision making process.  Thank you!

Please provide release date for this enhancement.  1+ years since demo and feedback gathering seems to be enough time to finish and deploy.

Looking through the audit logs - this was moved from "under construction" to "future consideration" in June 2023.  The hover over of "future consideration" explains that Atlassian is not working on this and will reconsider in a year.  So does that mean we have to wait until June 2024 before this will be even looked at for road mapping again?

            btw:  Rathesh is inactive

@Rathesh Richards you gave a colleague of mine and myself a demo of the milestones for advanced roadmap status on March 28th 2023. It looked great already. You briefly mentioned at that time (but without committing) a possible release in Q3 or Q4 2023.

Today we are changing our processes internally and more than ever we would need those milestones in the tool.

Adding milestones would help our project managers to fully utilize the Jira Plan tool.

For now I have done a workaround by creating a issue type called "milestone" and set the start date and duedate 1 day apart. It kinda works but not.

Most of our project managers are used to Microsoft Project, and they can't understand why milestones don't exist in Jira Plan. I agree.

As part of each release cycle we have some milestone dates (e.g. "UI Freeze", "Feature Freeze", etc) and it would be really helpful if we could add milestone markers for these dates. They aren't "releases" themselves (so makes no sense to clutter up the release list with them) and they aren't specific to an epic/initiative etc. They are dates which are within each release (so it would be nice if they could be added as milestone dates within a release but it would be fine if they could just be added to individual plans)

Our biggest use case for milestones is capability to display on a gantt chart (ie Advanced Roadmaps) or in a presentation as a visualization to stakeholders of upcoming milestones in the context of the work in progress.

What would be useful to me is the ability to place a visual indicator on the Timeline view that marks some event e.g. moving the code to testing or releasing to production or a datacenter being decommissioned.  Epics are useful for tracking but sometimes there are efforts that span multiple epics and releases ... it can be difficult for stakeholders to understand when something is done-done in that situation.  A milestone would be useful to help foster their understanding

This would be especially helpful if the milestone could also describe an event that isn't captured in Jira, which would provide context and external pressures around the work.  For example, a professional event your product team might be working towards, or some regulatory deadlines.

Something I just learned...you can create milestones as releases and see them on your roadmap. I title mine thusly "MILESTONE: Milestone name," so that I can differentiate the milestones from other releases. They're visible on the roadmap view and I can filter for just the milestones.

Please have this implemented soon. It is very helpful to align the deliverables against each milestone

It would be great to have a milestone feature at the Epic level, not just at the Initiative level.

This is a major miss vs competitor tools, and limits the ability to use advanced roadmaps to report to execs and business side. So annoying to have to copy and paste onto a slide and add annotations/lines to indicate.

Not being able to add milestones leaves a gap in planning.  The ability to add milestones for design delivery, dev complete, qa complete, etc which are totally separate from the fix version seems like it should be basic functionality.  Please add this feature!

This feature would be hugely valuable for our Marketing Projects in Advanced Roadmaps which have a number of milestones throughout their run. Otherwise it gets messy creating Epics or Stories to represent these when they're not technically work being done more a representation of them completing or reaching a point in time.

when can we see this as a feature? Would love to see a milestone market in advance roadmap. This request dates all the way back from 2015-2016, surprise you guys are that slow in making this happen for your customers.

Lack of milestones is a huge gap for planning. And no, I do not mean releases. I have projects that will not be released for a year or more, but there many milestones that need to be met and tracked against before the first release. Currently I can't get any executive stakeholder buy in to using Jira Plans because they lack basic functionality like this. Milestones would get me one step closer to being able to use Jira for planning rather than having to use a different tool and keep the two in sync.

This has already 316 votes. Create the differentiation between milestones and versions is key and a basic expected feature.

I want to see an ETA for this feature please.

Yes it would be great to have this feature. We can definitely use the project versions but milestones to display an important event would be useful.
