Add support for EPICs from Team Managed projects into Advanced Roadmaps

    • 4,030
    • Our product teams collect and evaluate feedback from a number of different sources. To learn more about how we use customer feedback in the planning process, check out our new feature policy.

Actually only the EPICs from JIRA Software company managed projects are recognised and supported as EPICs by Portfolio.

Epics coming from the Team-managed (aka Next-Gen/Simplified/Independent/Agility) project's feature are not recognised as EPICs and are listed as "standard" tasks within the Portfolio plan's backlog without possibility to use them for dependancies.

      Workaround:

Go to Portfolio's hierarchy configuration and map the Epic issue types coming from next-gen projects to the Epic level so Portfolio will properly recognise them.

STILL, once the mapping is done and the NextGen EPIC is mapped to the EPIC in the Portfolio's hierarchy settings:

      • The nextgen EPICs are recognised as EPIC and they can be created from within Portfolio and commit to the project, but there are other problems:
        • The dependencies are not imported from the project source into portfolio
        • The dependencies creation and updates are not commit from Portfolio to project. This is causing discrepancies between the project and the portfolio plan and then the project needs to be updated manually to fit the commit plan.
        • The issues created with a dependency to an EPIC from Portfolio are not visible in the project backlog or board's views, they can be accessed as project's issues using the issuekey directly. This is not the case for the issues created without dependancy, they will appear in the project's backlog after the portfolio's plan change has been commit.

We aim to deliver this added value to you soon.

As we've now released our first milestone to all customers, we'll be closing this suggestion. However, we welcome additional feedback about your planning experience with team-managed projects in Advanced Roadmaps. Please join our Community group or sign up to chat with us directly via this Calendly schedule.

            Cheers,

+1 for the two posters below - I was excited to announce to our project teams that this was coming out, but if the Epics from team-managed projects don't show in the Advance Roadmap hierarchy, it really doesn't add the necessary functionality or visibility for our managers.

@Sean Bryceland... i echo your thoughts. A lot more is expected from this functionality after the long wait.

of what good in high level planning is an Epic without a parent in the advance roadmap? Please consider some of us that have to coach our teams on the usage of your tools. Jira should be solving our problems and not adding extra work or becoming a bottleneck.

Great to see this has been released I know there was a lot of mechanics behind the scenes to get here.

Its a shame that we cannot roll up Team managed project issues - its hard to take advantage of a long list of epics at the bottom of the plan without pulling them into the wider hierarchy. Is this something that will come in a next release or is technically not feasible?

We’re please to confirm we are now at 100% rollout for team-managed project support in Advanced Roadmaps.
Please go ahead and include a team-managed project issue source in your existing Advanced Roadmaps plan or create a new one.

If you would be open to sharing your feedback, we have a private Community group on the way which we'll invite you to join in the coming days, once you're set up. Or if you have any questions, please sign up to chat with us 1:1. Hopefully you can find a suitable time via this Calendly schedule.

            Hi there everyone!

We’re pleased to (finally) announce that we have started rolling out our first milestone for team-managed project support in Advanced Roadmaps.

We’re close to 100% rollout - we’ll confirm in a few days once we’re out to everyone - but we wanted to let you know that this is imminent and to thank you for your patience. We know this has been a very long time coming.

There is nothing that you will need to do before you start; simply include a team-managed project issue source in your existing Advanced Roadmaps plan or create a new plan.

Please note there are some limitations to make you aware of, which you can read about here.

When we confirm the 100% roll out (within the next week) we’ll also share a link to a private Atlassian Community Group which we invite everyone to join and share their feedback.

You’ll also find a Calendly link to use to book a conversation with us if you would be open to sharing some of your time. We’d love to understand your impressions in more detail after you begin to include team-managed projects in Advanced Roadmaps.

            Cheers,
            Emma

Hello Jira, this new feature has made us placed some migrations from Team Managed projects to Company Managed projects on hold, as we are unable to add the Team Managed projects to the Advance Roadmap which we are experimenting for our Organization Portfolio project tracking.

Any thoughts on the ETA for the deployment/ completion.

Moreso, are the attachments and comments in the different issues type lost during Team managed to Company managed projects migration.
