This needs to be resolved! It is incredibly frustrating to receive requests from users to activate licences on items without any management oversite or alignment. This wastes time for Atlassian admins.

Hard for me to replicate the thinking of the minds that decided: Enterprise only.....could Atlassian elaborate, why this is being staged from top to down (assumption)? Is it the workflow at Atlassian? Is it the implementation infrastructure that makes this approach "reasonable"?

My users are now seeing links to ROVO in Jira and Loom in Confluence. How can I get these removed?

This feature is one of the worst things Atlassian has created. How can you offer something that allows regular employees to simply create new subscriptions, bypassing accounting, approvals, and more?

I also recommend that placing this link to switch off shall act like a switch. you would expect a ON/OFF symbol like all other switches on top, but it is merely a link. Not very good UI design.

We continue to receive spam notifications despite the recent settings change.

We are working on the App Switcher "Recommended for You" section, followed by recommendations on the "Your Work" page in Jira.

This continues to be a very poor customer experience, both from a UI/UX perspective and a customer service perspective.  It is unbelievable that Alex will let this issue persist when there is an outcry of requests to stop this Atlassian spamming from happening.  All the issues I am experiencing are captured in https://support.atlassian.com/requests/CES-42155.

The spamming needs to stop, now.  

We recently started using Jira. How is it possible that something like this has been open since 2022?
Especially all the random "activate AI now" prompts all over the place inline in issues and as buttons in issue lists are really annoying.

Not even mentioning all the "buy this addon, buy that addon" which I accidentally click on all the time as a new user.

There is no way we can use that AI feature which sends all the data over to OpenAI where we don't know what happens with it. Just let me opt the org instead of pushing it to half my users in every issue.

Got another request today for Jira Service Management.

Any news on this one? Our users keep clicking on "Plans" and "Product Discovery", which is clearly not what we're paying for (simply because we don't need it). c8de85913909 - an update on the time frame would be highly appreciated. I noticed you worked on this ticket a few hours ago.

Hey 00c3f9d3813a - they ended up being able to opt our entire instance out - there are still some things that make it through (the in-text prompts to enable the AI functionality came back on Monday, as example) but I haven't seen a "Can we interest you in new ways to eat glass?" pop-up in a while!

f65f0c48733b, I'm pretty sure Atlassian stopped using their own tools right around the time they went public. The bean counters probably thought giving everyone a licence was too expensive.

You are either overthinking this or stalling. I choose to believe the latter and therefore recommend you go for turning it off for all users. Then you can sort your stuff out after that if you want to make a fancier solution but what we are facing now is not what we paid good money for. 

It's really unpleasant and even unethical to push unsolicited advertisements to users. This is a terrible design choice, especially in a paid product. It is critical and represents not only a bug but also a demonstration of unethical marketing behavior.

This is really critical and it's clearly hurting Atlassian's image. This should be addressed with the utmost priority.

Hi lsmith2@atlassian.com - I would love if you could clarify your question a bit since it is a little ambiguous, but to try and tackle your request...

• "As an admin, I should be able to disable this in all places for all users in a single click" is the most baseline need. The majority of people will want to achieve that end-state, so making them go through hoops like assigning this via groups or other methods is pointlessly burdensome.
• "As an admin, I should be able to disable this in all places for all non-site admin users and site admins independently" feels like a nice-to-have, because if there was a __ group who would want these kinds of notifications it would be the site admins. Again, I don't think there is a purpose in tying "all non-site admins" to groups for the same reason as above, but I could potentially see some site admins choosing to receive these ads instead of other types of notifications about new Atlassian products. Maybe.

Since it's a toggle in system settings it should be applicable to all users not a group.

Are you genuinely having difficulty understanding the issue here and how to resolve it? I think that your question is a perfect example of the problem: A company of people who don't possess reading comprehension or critical thinking skills. Or perhaps you simply do not use your own products?

Just blanket, across the board, turn that shit off. No one asked for it. As an admin I don't want popups or tool tips advertising in the system, and I certainly don't want it for my users. We know exactly what you are doing: You want to advertise new toys to our users, so that they ask for them and we end up spending more time and money fulfilling their whims. It's like direct advertising to consumers prescription medications - stop it. The users don't know what they want.

Stop waffling. Stop stalling. Turn them off.

Hi all, I apologize for the frustration around this issue.  We are looking into how to best resolve this issue.  I want to confirm the expected behavior you have for turning off recommendations.  As an admin, would you expect recommendations to be turned off for all users, or just at the user level?  

c8de85913909 given that no one really wants these ads in the first place, can they just be blanket disabled while you figure out the next move? Because otherwise the picture is...

1. Atlassian rolls out in-app advertising to paying customers
2. When customers complained about it, y'all agreed it needed fixing and implemented a "disable ads" button
3. When customers pointed out that the button did nothing, ya'll agreed it was broken
4. Now you're saying "well, it is broken...but we've decided it's not worth fixing until something higher priority comes along."

Making us suffer because y'all screwed up and don't have a solid plan to fix it is the opposite of not f*&%*& the customer.

This isn't something that's part of an overhaul, though, this is a pretty bad bug that creates a nightmare for those of us trying to keep our Atlassian system complexity and billing in check. Which, I suppose, isn't Atlassian's problem.

As usual, an unacceptable, embarrassing "oversight" on Atlassian's part. Astounding how this company manages to so consistently ruin or fail to improve their products. It's actually impressive to some extent. 

Hundreds of thousands of dollars in spend and the button to turn off advertising doesn't work? Our goal is to keep our system simple and unified, but it's still recommending new apps to users. JSM projects show up when Creating a new Project as "Try this template!" but it directly undermines our deliberate decision, as a company, to use a different ITSM.

This should have been fixed as soon as it was raised.

As much as Atlassian Product and Engineering may frustrate me at times, Support is almost uniformly lovely and has been able to at least shed some light here. Specifically:

• The opt-out functionality that does exist is indeed bugged.
• There are ads and ad units which can either "opt-out of the opt-out", or are not included in its scope in the first place...so even when this bug is fixed, it's not going to allow us to actually "turn of the ads", just some sub-set.
• None of this currently, or apparently will, touch the more "native advertising" like the AI buttons embedded all over the place.
• Atlassian seems to be treating every type of ad and feature team doing it as unique and independent, so as of now it doesn't seem like there's going to be a way to disable this whole-hog.

I encourage anyone interested in this to put in Support tickets and use the "Send Feedback" options liberally to express your thoughts and feelings. I can't say it pays a lot of attention, but the Eye of Atlassauron does at least occasionally peek at these.

The OTHER thing Support can do for you is opt people out of these on a per-user basis. We are running a test with it right now as it seems to be new\unstable functionality, but so far no issues and more importantly NO ADVERTISING IN A PRODUCT WE PAY A LOT OF MONEY TO USE. If we are able to apply this instance-wide with no issues, I'll update here to confirm.

please have this bug fixed as soon as possible. Our own employees and our clients are frustrated by any form of ads in a paid software. This is the worst idea for professional software we have ever seen.

We understand that people are proud of stuff they build and that they want them to be used. But right now, being on a standard plan feels like a magazine with more ads than articles or a webpage financed through advertising.

This is just unprofessional and should this stuff continue people are considering moving to different products from more professional vendors.

To set the scope of ads I am talking about:

• Confluence
  • Functions in premium plan (e.g. calendars or automation) in the sidebar (some can be turned off, but this needs to be done space by space, frustrating work for admins)
  • Products in the search bar (e.g. compass or AI)
  • Additional Apps in the app menu
  • Space permission page (for premium plan)
• Jira
  • Products in the search bar (e.g. compass or AI)
  • Additional Apps in the app menu
  • Plans & Assets in the main menu bar (stuff only available in premium plan)
  • Compass in components page

This is similar to the references to Atlassian Intelligence being all over the place even when it's disabled (AI-1). I understand this is different in the back end, however in both situations the two key points are the same:

• Stop advertising to end users (better yet, stop all advertising within the product)
• Disabling a feature must disable it completely and permanently

Here are some explanations in case the rationale is not clear:

Stop advertising to end users

• End users are usually the least informed party regarding business decisions, so should not be prompted to initiate business decisions (i.e. get the cool new toy)
• An organisation adopting a product feature is a significantly more complex process than simply being aware of a feature's existence
• Administrators are the only audience who should ever see product recommendations (and this should be opt-in)

Disabling a feature must disable it completely and permanently

This should be self-explanatory, but in case it's not here are some excerpts from the dictionary.com definition of the word "off" (as in "turn it off"):

Would this also tie to ads that pop up on the right side of the screen?  The one I currently have is for Product Discovery with two options at the bottom for "Request to try" or "Learn More"?

I can click the ellipsis and select "I'm not interested", in which it comes back a few days later.  Anyone know how to kill those as well?

The product suggestions are really disturbing all our users. It is important to turn them off.

Product recommendations is confusing and time consuming for our organisation. We have processes in place for improving the system and want to have it visible in our Sandbox (test environment) but we really need to be able to disable this in Production.

it's horrible for the UX that we can't turn this off. Also for the tool acceptance it's really not advantage..

This is a real put off for the tool as we are spending so much money and we still get faced with advertising yet more products to buy - this is not professional.

I contacted support about this, and they suggested I report this issue here. I don't want to see advertisements within our tool. This setting should allow us to disable the incessant Atlassian Teams advertisements:

Not sure if this is within the scope of the issue but it should also be possible to disable features we have not purchased:

• Confluence pages tab in team-managed projects
• Project templates relating to other Atlassian products such as Jira Service Desk

These lead to confusion with our end users when they try to activate such products.
