I would say the implementation is a good start and went quick, thanks a ton for that!

Now comparing Confluence and JIRA, they do look quite different.

Jira is way higher and is always centered. Confluence is narrower and bound to the right side.

Maybe for identical look & feel for the users, an alignment would make sense here

Overall, we are happy and it comes just in time for our Live migration next month

The capability has been rolled out to our instance, but I'm unable to insert a hyperlink. The buttons is there, but when I select some text and click the button, nothing happens other than the Hyperlink button greys out. Is anyone else experiencing this? (Safari 17.3.1 on a Mac running macOS 14.3.1.)

Also, I'm disappointed that it's not possible to change the colour of text (only the banner background colour). Is that planned for the future?

Hi @arajah - thanks for adding this capability. Can you confirm if the new announcement banner features will be added to the "Update announcement banner configuration" API that apps can use? I did a quick test and the new `bgColor` and `content` with ADF text formatting is not supported via that API.

            Thanks!

As someone doing last minute migration from the Jira server product to the Atlassian cloud I can't believe that the announcement banner in the soon to be defunct server product is more advanced than it is here.  I've been able to use HTML to format the announcement banner in the server product for many, many years - I am thinking it is over a decade.  I understand not wanting to allow HTML and CSS on the page because then a user (albeit an admin) can inject nefarious code.  But seriously I am adding a comment in the Jira cloud and I can bold, italicize, underline, change colors, etc.  I can even

Incomprehensible that you have a more sophisticated banner in Confluence since ages and the devs are not able to copy this feature ever to Jira...why two separate development lines???

As the new year 2024 is in front of us, I was thinking to use announcement banner to greet our users, but unfortunately the banner display is so simple with #42526e color (is so called Fiord color, don't know why).

The new year is suppose to be fun, cheerful etc, etc... If we can have a banner with fully customized text formatting, including the background, color gradation, and if possible simple animation (using CSS), our next Christmas (2024) and new year (2025) will be more interesting and motivated for users seeing the fun greetings banner when they open the Jira on the first workday of new year.

I would like to add to the comments and vote to enable this. Plain text is not very helpful in the enterprise.  We need to be able to direct users with links, and other basic features.  Consider adding some of the features in confluence like /layout or /table and links (bold/italic) Color is important to notify users of what is being communicated in that announcement.  A great ++++if it works the same when using the API https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/platform/rest/v3/api-group-announcement-banner/#api-rest-api-3-announcementbanner-put

Our team are greatly interested in this change. It appears to have been "in the works" since the banner was first added to Cloud. Customisable banners have been part of Jira Server for a long time. We are migrating over to the Cloud and the lack of formatting makes communication and user interaction difficult - particularly when sharing links! This is a step backward when "upgrading" to Cloud

Our user used to consider the URL link in text on the banner is a system error...It is really not user-friendly. Hope to see the improvement badly.

The HTML/CSS/JS functionality of the Jira Server banners provided a flexible means of communicating with our userbase during our server to cloud migration. We were able to animate and even embed JavaScript within the banner to globally communicate the remaining time until events and this ability proved indispensable when we were forced to adjust our migration timeline on very short notice.

Now we have static white text on a dark background. Is Atlassian now disallowing this flexibility for security reasons?
