      Update 01 November 2022

Hi Everyone, thanks for your patience on this. We released a fix late October that has improved the validation when changing issue type in the UI.

Most Jira sites that were seeing the move wizard popped up unnecessarily when changing an issue to a Story or Epic issue type (from non-Story and non-Epic issue type, such as Bug) should now be able to skip the wizard steps.

      The underlying logic involved is:

      • Previously there was an issue with custom field which have a context which assigns the custom field to specific issue types. Such as the out-of-the-box context for the "Story Points" field, which assigns itself to the Story and Epic issue types specifically instead of "all issue types". When changing the issue type to an Epic or Story, the Story Points field will show up during the move wizard. This would also force the move wizard to appear when attempting to change the issue type inline in the issue-view. Any custom fields are manually configured to point to specific issue types was affected the same way.
      • The improvement is that Jira will no longer require the move wizard to show up when a custom field has a context which adds it to specific issue types (like the Story Point field's out-of-the-box config) and the custom field is an optional one.

Please note that the improvement isn't applicable for required custom fields, so the move wizard still shows up in that case. If you prefer to skip the move wizard, you can configure the custom field as an optional field by following this page.

      Thanks

      Issue Summary

Changing Issue Type is redirecting to Move Issue screen even when all Issue Types are having the same workflows and Field configuration.

      Steps to Reproduce

We are not able to replicate this behavior in all instances.

      1. Open a project that has issue types associated with the same workflow, field configuration, and Screen.
      2. Change the Issue type by click on the Issue Type Icon beside the Issue Key.
      3. When selecting another Issue type it redirects to the Move issue screen.

      Expected Results

If the Issue Type has the same Workflow and field configuration, it has to change the Issue type directly without redirecting to the Move issue screen.

      Actual Results

In spite of having the same workflow are field configurations, it still redirects to the Move issue screen.

      Workaround

Currently, there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available
