Issue Summary
In Jira Cloud today, when a Jira admin wants to create a new priority and give that priority an icon, they only ever seen the same five default icons (blocker, critical, major, minor, trivial). They cannot see exactly what existing options are available to them. This particular feature appears to be a hold-over from Jira server where administrators have an expectation to know the filepath of the icon images they would want to use. However Cloud site-admins do not have this ability, and in turn they are unable to select from the available existing icons.
If an admin should ever delete an existing priority, say Low or Medium, then when they try to create a new replacement priority they don't actually see those as options either. Even though these are default icons that are included in every Jira Cloud site today.
Steps to Reproduce
- As a Jira admin go to the priorities .atlassian.net/secure/admin/ViewPriorities.jspa
- Go to Add a new priority section
- Click the 'select image' link there a popup will appear
Expected Results
Expect that admins can see all the available icons they could choose from. At the very least all the defaults that come with Jira, but also any custom icons that might have been added too.
Actual Results
User only sees the same 5 default options, regardless of what icons actually exist in Jira, and regardless of what priorities are already defined.
Workaround
Admins can still select existing icons, but they have to know the name of the file to choose, such as:
- blocker.png
- blocker.svg
- critical.png
- critical.svg
- high.png
- high.svg
- highest.png
- highest.svg
- low.png
- low.svg
- lowest.png
- lowest.svg
- major.png
- major.svg
- medium.png
- medium.svg
- minor.png
- minor.svg
- trivial.png
- trivial.svg
Without entering the exact filename, you cannot add this icon back to Jira easily. And furthermore this workaround is not ideal because the user can't see exactly what that icon looks like until after the priority is created.

[JRACLOUD-74639] Choosing an icon when creating a priority does not show you all available icons
Hey all,
Thank you so much for your interest in this issue.
We have just released a refreshed priorities page, which has fixed this issue. The page now uses an icon upload for custom priority icons. Within the upload modal, you can click the '...' button, which will display all available icons.
N.B. Previously uploaded icons (via URL) will not be displayed here.

I was having this issue too, but I was able to follow the workaround and it seems like a good temporary solution.
Hi 1ca124cdeab0 thank you for bringing this to our attention. I'm afraid that I am able to reproduce this problem again now too. Can I confirm that you are able to follow the workaround to access the additional images?:

Hello I just stumbled across this issue as I am setting up my company's Jira Cloud. I am only ever given these 5 icons even though I have confirmed that all 10 of the new icons do exist.
Can't add an image but I get the same issue as the image posted in the description, just with the newer Jira Cloud priority icons.

My teams would like to adjust at least the colors of some icons (e.g. priority). It's almost impossible to tell the difference between "High" (red) and "Medium" (orange). For example we'd like to upload icons with different colors (seems easy), or adjust the color of an existing icon (probably harder).
Adjusting the "Priority color" only addresses some areas of coloration related to priority, but not the color of the icons themselves. There doesn't seem to be any good reason to have them be different!

For others finding this - first, please cast a vote for this suggestion (above).
Next, know that you can modify what icon shows for what priority. You just need to know more than you can find in the docs. And you'll want to adjust the "priority color" to match the color of the icon you select, to avoid confusing visualizations in various places in Jira.
To confirm the icons available in your Jira Cloud instance, you can view the .png or .svg versions by pointing your web browser at:
https://YOURNAME.atlassian.net/images/icons/priorities/PRIORITY.XXX
after substituting:
- YOURNAME based on your cloud instance
- PRIORITY with the name of the priority (e.g. "lowest", Andy lists all the names above in the original post)
- and XXX with either "svg" or "png"
Apparently I can't add an attachment. So here's a deeplink to an image in an Atlassian Marketplace vendor's blog, showing all the priority images at once. Just the "OLD" icons are relevant for Jira Cloud (circa Jan 2021) - not sure what the "NEW" icons are.
