Apply code formatting to selected text

Clicking on the code snippet icon (in the formatting toolbar) creates a new code snippet, but it's not yet possible to select existing text and apply the code formatting.

The icon simply creates a new snippet, requiring you to cut and paste the existing text into the code block.
