      Update 11th March 2022

Hi Everyone, thanks for your patience on this, we have released a fix for Search field under high priority to reduce some of the impact. However, the bug still exists while using other fields and work for this is still in progress and should be available within coming months. We will post another update once the other fixes have been released.

      Thanks
      Jira Cloud Engineering

      Issue Summary

When a search is performed using pasted text from Microsoft Excel, Jira adds the text copied from Excel as an image attachment.

      Environment

      Jira Cloud & Microsoft Excel

      Steps to Reproduce

      1. View any issue in the new Jira issue view
      2. Copy a string from Microsoft Excel
      3. Trigger issue search via the side panel or the keyboard shortcut '/'
      4. Paste the string into the Search Jira field
      5. Cancel the search by clicking anywhere or the keyboard shortcut 'ESC'
      6. Observe the attachment

      Expected Results

      No attachment added

      Actual Results

Search text is added to Jira issue as an image file (.png)

      Notes

      • This only affects text or string copied from Microsoft Excel. Text or string from Microsoft Word or Google Sheet is not affected
      • This also seems to happen when there is more media than text in what is copied, having an image in the clipboard also causes the same behavior.
      • The same behaviour is noticed while creating a Sub-Task from the Parent issue as well. The copied text from Excel file is added to the parent ticket.
      • Same behaviour is also noticed when we search for a text, that was copied from Excel, in Backlog. If an issue is open on the sidebar, then an attachment gets added to the issue.

      Workaround

Disable the new issue view. To do it, please follow the steps described below:

      1. Go to Jira home page and click on the avatar at the bottom-left of the screen and then click on Personal settings
      2. Under Jira labs, next to New Jira issue view for software projects, disable this feature by clicking on the green button (it will become gray and a feedback pop-up will appear)

There is no workaround at this time as We're currently transitioning everyone to the new issue view, so you're no longer able to switch back to the old issue view. Learn more
